LIBRARY HAPPENINGS AUGUST 30-SEPTEMBER 5

REMINDER: The Library will be closed on both Sunday, September 5, and Monday, September 6, for the Labor Day Holiday.

The Fall Programs are now listed in the Event Calendars for Adults and Children. Online registration for the Children's Programs begins on Saturday, September 4, at 9 a.m.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS AUGUST 23-29

ADULT SERVICES:
On Monday, August 23, genealogist Mike Karsen will present Write Your Family History Now! at 7 p.m. He will show how to gather, organize, and publish family memories and history before the information is forgotten or lost. Register online.

Israel: Birth of a Nation from its Historical Roots will be the subject of Bill Helmuth's latest program. Join him on Thursday, August 26, at 7 p.m., as he shares his recent trip to Israel along with historical background, from Tel Aviv to Masada. Register online.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS AUGUST 16-22

ADULT SERVICES:
At 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 19, join Chef Dave Esau as he prepares several Summer Harvest Recipes using the bounty of overflowing garden produce. Register online. Only a few openings are left.

There is still time to sign up for the Adult Summer Reading Program, which ends in just a couple of weeks. Read 5 items from types chosen by the Let's Make a Deal type game to earn a t-shirt. These items and any other EGVPL books read also earn raffle tickets for area restaurants and stores--and more.

YOUTH SERVICES:
Two Weeks of Wii continues with the second week in Kids Korner. Times are Monday through Thursday at 10 a.m.-12 p.m, 2-4 p.m., and 6-8 p.m. There are two stations available, which can accommodate up to 4 players each. Call Youth Services (extension 268) 24 hours in advance or just drop in. Sign up as a group or as a single player.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS AUGUST 9-15

ADULT SERVICES:
IDES will present it's monthly workshop, Effective Resumes, Interviewing & Job Search Techniques, on Monday, August 9, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mock interviews will be a part of the session. Register online.

A Bus Trip: Chicago's Shoreline & Air/Water Pre-show is planned for Friday, August 13, from 8:15 to 4:15. The $73 tickets include a behind-the-scenes tour of Soldier Field, lunch at Harry Caray's Tavern, and an opportunity to watch the rehearsals for the upcoming Air and Water Show from North Avenue Beach. Tickets may be purchased at the Circulation Desk.

The Friends will be holding another Mini Book/Media Sale on Friday, August 13, from 3-7 p.m., and on Saturday, August 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Included will be items recently withdrawn from the Library collection.

Got Game? is back on Friday, August 13, from 7-10 p.m. Patrons 12 and up can sign up for an evening of pizza, pop, and various types of games for individuals and for groups/teams. Anyone younger than 17 must have written parental permission. Register online.

YOUTH SERVICES:
For the next two weeks, there will be opportunities to play Wii Games in Kids Korner from Monday through Thursday. There will be three 2 hour sessions each day, 10 a.m. to noon, 2-4 p.m., and 6-8 p.m. Drop in alone or with 3 other friends to play games like Mario Kart and Guitar Hero: World Tour. A slot may be reserved by calling Youth Services at extension 268. There are two Wii's in Kids Korner.

Youth Services will be closed to patrons on Friday, August 13, so the rug can be cleaned. The librarians will be on hand to help find items, though some (DVD's, CDs, games) will be available in the rotunda.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS AUGUST 2-8

ADULT SERVICES:
Join Reference Librarian Nancy Larson on Monday, August 2, at 7 p.m., for There's More to Life Than Google. Learn about some of the databases and other resources available through the Library website that provide information ranging from full newspaper articles to foreign language lessons to practice standardized tests. Register online.

On Tuesday, August 3, The Morning Book Group will meet at 10:30 a.m. to discuss To Dance with the White Dog by Terry Kay--a stray dog appears at the door of an elderly man who has recently lost his beloved wife and gives him a new purpose in living. For more information call Chris Mika at extension 272.

YOUTH SERVICES:
The children's Summer Reading program has ended--though prizes can still be picked up through the week at least--and the final raffle will be Monday, August 2, at 11 a.m. Finishers (T-shirt earned) can attend one of four performances this week of Magic by Randy: Wednesday, August 4, at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 7 p.m., and Thursday, August 5 at 7 p.m. Tickets are necessary and were given out with the t-shirts.
