LIBRARY HAPPENINGS SEPTEMBER 27-OCTOBER 4

ADULT SERVICES:
There is already a Waiting List for the Computer Class, Microsoft Word 2010, to be held on Tuesday, September 28, at 12 noon. To be put on the list, register online.

Tickets are still available for the latest bus trip, Chicago Skyscrapers and the "Ledge", set for Wednesday, September 29. Visit Willis Towers for The Ledge and Water Tower Place for lunch, while learning the history of some of Chicago's famous skyscrapers. Tickets are $78, available at the Circulation Desk.

Internet Basics
will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Friday, October 1 (a change from October 2). Register online for this class for Internet Newbies and learn the basics of URLs, toolbars, and more.

YOUTH SERVICES:
There are still openings in many of the Fall classes of Ready to Read and Science and More. Register online.

FREE MUSEUM PASSES FOR SEPTEMBER 25

The Smithsonian Magazine is promoting a Free Passes Day on Saturday, September 25, all over the U.S. Several Illinois museums are participating, including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Adler Planetarium, and two Frank Lloyd Wright houses. A printable ticket admitting two can be downloaded from the site.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS SEPTEMBER 20-26

ADULT SERVICES:
Which assets are subject to probate and which are not? What parts of an estate really have value? How can beneficiaries receive the most from an estate? How does a retirement plan work in today's market? These are some of the questions that attorney John Pankau and his associates will answer on Monday, September 20, at 7 p.m. at the program Discover Your Real Net Worth. Register online.

The Friends of the Library are sponsoring the program For What It's Worth: Antique Appraisal on Thursday, September 23, at 7 p.m. What makes an item valuable or collectible will be discussed by professional appraiser Karl Gates. He will also appraise a single item--not stamps, coins, or guns--brought in by registered attendees. Only a few spots are open. Register online.

YOUTH SERVICES:
Babysitter's Training for children ages 10-16 begins Saturday, September 25. This is a two week course (the second session is October 2), running from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on both days. There is a $10 fee for a book and other supplies. Register online, but a place in the class is not secure until the fee is paid at the Youth Services desk.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS SEPTEMBER 13-19

ADULT SERVICES:
IDES is back again on Monday, September 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., for Effective Resumes, Interviewing & Job Search Techniques. Practice creating a resume and going on an interview, as well as learn how to look for a job. Register online.

See Pierce Brosnan and Ewan McGregor in Ghostwriter on Thursday, September 16, at 7 p.m.--a writer is hired to finish writing the memoir of a Prime Minister and discovers dangerous secrets. No tickets are needed. Rated PG-13.

YOUTH SERVICES:
All the Fall Storytimes and Programs begin this week. Drop in for Baby Tales on Mondays at 10 a.m. and Twilight Tales on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. for children ages 6 months to 2 1/2 years. No registration is needed for either of Wednesday's classes, Alphabet Soup at 10 a.m. (ages 2 1/2 - 3 1/2) and Evening Storytime 7 p.m. (all ages).

Register online for Getting Ready to Read on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and on Thursdays at 10 a.m. (for ages 3-5), and for Science and More on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m. (grades 1 and up).

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS SEPTEMBER 6-12

ADULT SERVICES:
Got Game! returns on Friday, September 10, at 7 p.m. (after the Library closes). Patrons ages 12 and up can sign up to play Wii, Playstation, and other computerized games--alone or in teams--in several locations within the Library. Pizza and pop will be provided. Sign up online. Children under 17 must have written parental permission.

Finishers of the Adult Summer Reading Program are invited to Dewey's Deal Game Show on Sunday, September 12, at 2 p.m. Food, prizes, and a chance to participate in a trivia game show will be part of the afternoon's activities. Winners of the "bag" prizes will also be announced at this time.
