LIBRARY HAPPENINGS NOVEMBER 29--DECEMBER 5

ADULT SERVICES:
On Monday, November 29, at 7 p.m., Dr. Sharon Kissane will present a program on Handwriting Analysis. What does your handwriting reveal about you and your character? Or about another's character? Find out at this informative program. Samples of attendees' handwriting will be analyzed if desired. Register online.

If you missed seeing Disney's A Christmas Carol when it was shown in Kids Korner, there will be an opportunity to view it on the "big" screen in the Large Meeting Room on Tuesday, November 30, at 7 p.m. This animated version is rated PG. No tickets are needed.

The next film in the Twilight Saga, Eclipse, will be released in DVD format Friday night. There will be a special Up-All-Night DVD Release Party for 6th graders and up on Friday, December 3. beginning at 7 p.m.
Bring your sleeping bag, wear your PJs and get ready for a Twilight Saga marathon, culminating with a midnight showing of Eclipse. The fun starts when the library closes.

*Moviegoers must check in at the library before 7:00pm, when the doors will be locked*

There will be Twilight-related games, trivia challenges, and food. Be prepared to stay up late and have fun. The first movie, Twilight, rolls at 7:30pm. New Moon will start at about 10:00pm, followed by Eclipse just after midnight.
Pick-up time is 3:00am. Parents must come inside the library to pick-up their children; no one will be allowed to leave the building unless accompanied by a parent. This party is open to grades 6 and up and attendence is limited to 25. Parents must register their children at the Adult Reference Desk. For more information, call Adult Reference at x273.


YOUTH SERVICES:
This week Mrs. M. will present a seasonal program for preschoolers through kindergarten, Gingerbread Story Time. There will be holiday related stories and a special craft to decorate. The times are:
Tuesday, November 30, at 10 a.m. and at 1:30 p.m.
Wednesday, December 1, at 7 p.m.
Thursday, December 2, at 10 a.m.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS NOVEMBER 22-28

REMINDER: The Library will be closed on Thursday, November 25, for the Thanksgiving holiday. Friday, November 26, the Library will close at 5 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. because of the Village Holiday Lighting Ceremony and Fireworks.

ADULT SERVICES:
The meeting of the Evening Book Group, previously scheduled for last Tuesday, has been rescheduled for this Tuesday, November 23, at 7:30 p.m., in Kids Korner. The book under discussion will be Willa Cather's The Song of the Lark.

YOUTH SERVICES:
No specific programs are scheduled for this week. Sign-ups have begun for the Gingerbread Story Times and the Holiday Crafts. Register online.

HOLIDAY BOOK SALE

The Friends of the Library will be holding a special Holiday Book Sale in the Lobby this weekend on Friday, November 19, from 3-7 p.m. and on Saturday, November 20, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Mint condition books, cd's, dvd's,and other items suitable for holiday gifting will be available.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS NOVEMBER 15-21

ADULT SERVICES:
On Monday, November 15, at 7 p.m., historian Bill Haase will present the program 40 People I'd Like to Invite to Dinner--2 at a Time. If you could invite any 2 people from the past to dinner, who would they be and what would you talk about? That is the concept behind this program. What 40 famous personages has Mr. Haase chosen for 20 fantasy dinners? Come tonight and find out. Register online.

On Tuesday, November 16 November 23, the Evening Book Group will be meeting at 7:30 p.m. in Kids Korner to discuss Willa Cather's The Song of the Lark--small town girl gets a chance to go to the big city to realize her dream of a career in music. Have you been wanting to see The Lion King but have not wanted to face the hassle of getting to downtown Chicago? Why not join the bus trip scheduled for Wednesday, November 17. The $57 ticket will include the bus ride there and back, a "brown bag lunch", and a balcony seat. For more information, call Jill Derkits.

Now that you have a computer at home, how do you maintain it, add or delete programs, update it, or prevent a virus? On Thursday, November 18, at 7 p.m., Eric Brodsky will discuss how to Tune Up Your Computer. Register online.

YOUTH SERVICES:
At 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 16, all 2011 Battle of the Books participants and their parents will have a meeting to go over the rules and procedures. Information about availability, team names, and personal name spelling will be verified at this time.

The newest version of a Christmas classic, Disney's A Christmas Carol featuring Jim Carrey, will be shown in Kids Korner on Wednesday, November 17, at 4 p.m. No tickets are needed. Snacks are permitted. Rated PG.

Family Reading Night--Pajama Party 2010 will be held on Thursday, November 18, at 7 p.m. in Kids Korner. Bring the kids in their pajamas (along with their teddies and blankets) and listen to favorite stories while enjoying some milk and cookies. If a parent would like to read a specific story, please call Youth Services (extension 268) to let them know the book title. Register online for this statewide event.

This is the last week for regularly scheduled story times until January.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS NOVEMBER 8-14

Hope everyone remembered to change their clocks back one hour.

ADULT SERVICES:
IDES is back on Monday, November 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., for the monthly workshop Effective Resumes, Interviewing & Job Search Techniques. This is an opportunity for anyone looking for employment to get advice on writing resumes, on looking for a job in the best places, and on making a good impression in an interview (there will even be time to participate in a mock interview). The Computer Class on Internet Basics on Wednesday, November 10, at 9:15 a.m., is almost full. Learn about toolbars, urls, and basic navigation. Register online.

At 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 11, Dr. Carey Dachman will present a program on Understanding Rheumatoid Arthritis. Treatments for rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis will be covered as well as advice on living with these conditions. Register online.

From 12:30 to 4:30 on two consecutive Fridays, November 12 and 19, AARP representatives will conduct the program Driver Training. This class is for drivers aged 50 and up and will review driving skills and techniques. There is a fee of $14 ($12 for AARP members). This class might have a reduction effect on insurance premiums--check with your carrier. Call Jill Derkits for more information.

It's the second Friday of the month on November 12 and once again time for Got Game?. Patrons 12 and up are welcome to come in after-hours, from 7-10 p.m., to play solo or as a team on Wii, Playstation, and PCs. Children under 17 must have written permission. It's National Gaming Day @ Your Library on Saturday, November 13. Board games will be available for gaming opportunities, as well as the usual electronic games that can be played in the Media Room.

Children in grades K to 8 are invited to participate in a Chess Tournament on Saturday, November 13, at 1:30 p.m. It is not restricted to only those who took the classes; all are welcome. Register online.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS NOVEMBER 1-7

ADULT SERVICES:
The Morning Book Group will be meeting on Tuesday, November 2, at 10:30 a.m., to discuss Alexander McCall Smith's The #1 Ladies Detective Agency--Mma Ramotswe opens a detective agency in Botswana, using a detective manual, Agatha Christie, and her own instincts to solve mysteries. At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 3, George Caraballo of First American Bank and Jackie See of Family Credit Management will the present the program Solving the Mystery of your Credit History. Learn how to decipher the reports as well as how to improve your score. Register online.

YOUNG SERVICES:
Toy Story 3 will be shown on Wednesday, November 3, at 4 p.m. in Kids Korner--when Andy leaves for college his old toys are mistakenly sent to a daycare. Rated G. No registration needed. Snacks are permitted.

Shrink Art is back! Children in grades 6-12 are welcome to come to the YA Craft: Shrinkable Art on Thursday, November 4, at 7:15 p.m. Make jewelry, key chain attachments, dog tags, or something to hang on a backpack. Register online.

There is still time to register for the Chess Tournament for children in grades K to 8 on Saturday, November 13, at 1:30 p.m. Participants do not need to have taken the classes at the Library. Register online.
