LIBRARY HAPPENINGS NOVEMBER 28-DECEMBER 4

ADULT SERVICES:
Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, and Ian McShane star in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides to be shown on Tuesday, November 29, at 7 p.m., in the Large Meeting Room. Another Jack Sparrow adventure in which a woman from his past embroils him in a search for the Fountain of Youth. Rated PG-13. No tickets are needed.

YOUTH SERVICES:
Holiday craft and story times begin this week with Gingerbread Storytimes. Preschoolers through kindergarten will decorate cookies after hearing gingerbread related stories. Times are:
Tuesday, November 29, at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Wednesday, November 30, at 7 p.m. (this session is closed)
Thursday, December 1, at 10 a.m.
There are still openings in the two morning sessions; the Tuesday afternoon session has a waiting list. Register online.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS NOVEMBER 21-27

REMINDER: The Library will be closed all day on Thursday, November 24, for the Thanksgiving Holiday. On Friday, November 25, the Library will re-open at 9 a.m., but will close 2 hours early--at 5 p.m.--for the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and Fireworks.

ADULT SERVICES:
Nook Night Comes to the Elk Grove Library on Monday, November 21, at 7 p.m. Learn about the features and advantages of the various Nook types of e-readers from representatives of the Schaumburg Barnes & Noble bookstore. How to download materials to e-readers through the Library website and My Media Mall will also be discussed. One lucky attendee will win a Nook. Register online.

There will be a Bus trip on Tuesday, November 22 to Fireside Theatre in Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin, for A Fireside Christmas . This all day trip--tickets are $85--leaves at 8:30 a.m. For more information, call Jill Derkits at extension 226.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS NOVEMBER 14-20

ADULT SERVICES:
Bill Helmuth returns on Tuesday, November 15, at 7 p.m., for his latest history/travel program, Lebanon. This Middle East country goes back to the Phoenicians and it's culture reflects the influence of Greeks, Romans, and Ottomans. Register online.

YOUTH SERVICES:
Tonight--November 14-- at 6 p.m., Battle of the Books 2012 4th and 5th grade teams and their parents will have a meeting led by Mrs. Casper in the Large Meeting Room. Information about the battles, team responsibilities, battle format--there has been a slight change from past years--, and confirmation of participant information (spelling of names, contact information, and date availability) will be covered. An exhibition battle will be presented as well. Participants and parents who are not able to attend should call Mrs. Casper at extension 248.

The Chess Tournament for children in grades k-8 will be held on Saturday, November 19, at 1:30 p.m. Participants do not need to have taken the classes here. Register online.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS NOVEMBER 7-13

ADULT SERVICES:
There are still a few openings in Wednesday's Computer Class, Internet Basics--November 9 at 2 p.m. Learn about urls, toolbars, hyperlinks, and more. Register online.

I Have What? Finding Medical Information Online will be presented on Wednesday, November 9, at 7 p.m., by Reference Librarian Nancy Larson. Find out what the most reliable sources are and how to avoid scams. Register online.

The Friends of the Library are sponsoring the program Clark Weber's Rock and Roll Radio 1955-1975: The Fun Years (based on his book) on Thursday, November 10, at 7 p.m. Hear the legendary WLS disk jockey reminisce about famous rock bands--and other djs--,the music, and their adventures and misadventures in the early years of rock. Register online.

In celebration of National Gaming Day @ Your Library, Adult Services is sponsoring a Game Night Lock-in on Saturday, November 12, from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. There will be games of all kinds, movies, and food. Open to patrons aged 11 and up. All attendees must fill out a permission slip and register at the Adult Services Desk in person. Spaces are limited. For more information, call Josh at extension 282.
