LIBRARY HAPPENINGS FEBRUARY 27-MARCH 4

ADULT SERVICES: Now is he time to start thinking about new yard landscaping. Join naturalist Dennis Paige on Tuesday, February 28, at 7 p.m., for Transforming Spaces into Eco-Friendly Places. He'll introduce participants to ecological, low maintenance, and native plants that can enhance any yard or garden. Register online. For more information, call Jill Derkits at extension 226.

YOUTH SERVICES: Friday, March 2 is the last day for the Wolves Winter Reading Program. The final weekly drawing and the end-of-program shoebox drawings will be on Saturday, March 3, at 11 a.m. Winners do not need to be present.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS FEBRUARY 20-26

The annual Friends of the Library Book Sale will be this coming weekend, February 24-26. On Friday, from 6-9 p.m., members only are welcome to a preview of the sale. Membership can be purchased that night. On Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the general public will be admitted to the sale. On Sunday, from 1-4 p.m., most items will be eligible for the $5-a-bag special.


ADULT SERVICES: On Friday, February 24, Cheri Dial, Village financial advisor, will be in Kids Korner from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. to discuss Raising "Money Smart" Kids. No registration is needed.


YOUTH SERVICES: Monday, February 20, is Presidents Day and there will be a special day-off program at 11 a.m. in Kids Korner--Getting Excited about Science presented by Steve Belliveau. Simple machines, magnetism, friction, and more, along with music, magic, and audience participation will be part of the show. All ages are welcome, but preschoolers must come with an adult. No registration is needed. Strollers will not be allowed in the room.

The monthly workshop for job seekers sponsored by IDES, Effective Resumes, Interviewing and Job Search Techniques (Monday, February 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.),  is currently full.  To be placed on the Waiting List, register online.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS FEBRUARY 6-12

On Monday, February 6, at 7 p.m., the film Super 8 will be shown in the Large Meeting Room.  Featuring Elle Fanning, the story is set in 1979 in a small Ohio town where a group of teens are making a movie with their Super 8 camera.  They witness--and get on film--a train accident that figures in a larger incident involving, possibly, aliens.  Rated PG-13.  No tickets are needed.

The Morning Book Group will be meeting on Tuesday, February 7, at 10:30 a.m., to discuss Maeve Binchy's Evening Class--a disparate group of Dubliners are all affected by their experience in a Night School Italian Class.  For more information, call Chris Mika at extension 227.

Arlington Heights genealogy expert Stephen Szabados will be discussing Organizing Your Family History So Everyone Can Understand on Thursday, February 9, at 7 p.m.  Sorting the information available, discovering some new resources, and using new ways to display the collected information will be part of the program.  Register online.  For more information, call Jill Derkits at extension 226.
