LIBRARY HAPPENINGS JULY30-AUGUST 5

ADULT SERVICES:
Specialist Jack Waddick returns on Monday, July 30, at 7 p.m., for eBay: Beyond the Basics.  Advanced and specialized selling techniques, including international sales, will be part of the program.  Register online.

The Adult Services Reading Program continues through August 26, so there's still time to sign up. Reading five books earns a t-shirt.

 YOUTH SERVICES:
Youth Services Summer Reading officially ended last week, but there are still some related events occurring this week.  On Monday, at 11 a.m., the Final Raffle will take place.  Please check the posted list at the YS desk or online here (for the regular program) and online here (for Young Adults) to see if you are a winner. The Dr. Gesundheit programs for those who reached prize #5 (T-shirt) will be on Wednesday, August 1, at 7 p.m., and Thursday,August 2, at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 7 p.m.

 REMINDER: Prizes can still be collected through this week at least and probably the next week, as well.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS JULY 23-29

ADULT SERVICES:
On Wednesday, July 25, at 7 p.m., the Friends of the Library will be sponsoring Never Put Ketchup on a Hot Dog:
Bob Schwartz, executive VP of Vienna Beef and author of "Never Put Ketchup on a Hot Dog" talks about hot dogs and hot dog stands throughout the years with an emphasis on Chicago. Don't miss this "loving tribute to wienie stands" as well as a homage to passion and the people behind those stands. Little hot dogs, but NO KETCHUP will be served.

On Thursday morning, July 26, the latest Bus Trip will take participants on a Wrigley Field Tour & Lunch @ the Cubby Bear.  Go behind the scenes at the famous ball park, then enjoy a buffet lunch at the appropriately-named restaurant.  Tickets are $46 and can be purchased at the Circulation Desk.

YOUTH SERVICES:
Local high school Junior Jennifer Bolek will be presenting a workshop on writing poetry--and other writing forms--on Monday, July 23, at 3 p.m.  There will also be opportunities to share personal compositions.  Mrs. M will help participants to create a writing journal.  Pizza will be available, too.  This class is open to students in grades 6 and up.  Register online.

The final Friday Program of the summer will be July 27 at 11 a.m.  The popular Madcap Puppets are returning with their new show, Rumplestiltskin.  No tickets are needed.  All ages are welcome, but preschoolers must come with an adult.  Strollers will not be permitted in the room because of space limitations.

Reminder:  this is the last week for Youth Summer Reading.  The final raffle will be on Monday, July 30. Prizes will still be available for pick-up for a few more weeks.  Please check  online or at the YS Reference Desk to see the list of raffle winners--many, many gift certificates are still unclaimed.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS JULY 16-22

YOUTH SERVICES:
On Monday, July 22, local teen-age author Reina McKenzie, from Conant High School, will present 2 workshops for aspiring writers.
 From 2-3 p.m., she  will talk to children in grades 3 to 5 about ideas and methods for beginning writers.  Register online.
At 3 p.m., she will speak to students in grade 6 and up about her experiences, and will include writing exercises.  Register online.
Her book is Stepping Out of Line.

This week the Friday morning program, starting at 11 a.m., will be Mike Vondruska's Illinois Juggling Institute.  Watch him perform, then try juggling yourself.  All ages are welcome, but preschoolers must come with an adult.  Because of space limitations, strollers will not be permitted in the room.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS JULY 9-15

ADULT SERVICES:
There are still a few openings in Monday's session of  Effective Resumes, Interviewing and Job Search Techniques.  This job-searcher's workshop will run on July 9 from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and will include an opportunity for a mock interview.  This program is a monthly IDES presentation.  Register online.

Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd star in the movie Wanderlust that will be shown in the Large Meeting Room on Wednesday, July 11, at 7 p.m.  When a city couple face unemployment, they try living in a commune, which also advocates free love. Rated R.  No tickets are needed.

The 2 week AARP Driver Training classes begin this Friday, July 13, from 1-5 p.m., and continue next Friday, July 20.  Attendees, 50 years old and up,  must come to both Friday sessions to complete the course.  Completion of the course may lower insurance rates.  There is a $14 fee ($12 for AARP members), due on the first day.  Register online.

Game Night is Friday, July 13 from 7-10 p.m.  Patrons 12 and up are welcome to attend and play board games, PC games, and Wii, Playstation, or xBox games.  Those under 17 must have written permission to participate.  Snacks will be available.  Register online.

The Meteors will again be appearing at this year's Ice Cream Social on Sunday, July 22, from 2-4 p.m.  Ice cream will be $.50 and the entertainment will be free.


YOUTH SERVICES:

This week's Friday morning 11 a.m. show will be teenage Magician T.J. Ketchum.  All ages are welcome; no tickets are needed.  Children younger than Kindergarten age must come with an adult.  Strollers will not be allowed in the room because of lack of space.

On Friday, July 6, Youth Services will be sponsoring Plum Crazy Puppets at 11 a.m.  All ages are welcome, but preschool age children must come with an adult.  Because of space limitations, strollers will not be allowed in the room.  No tickets are needed.
