Read Down Your Fines this September

Library users ages 18 and under, are overdue fines on your library card getting you down? Participate in our Read Down Your Fines program this September!

WHAT

The Read Down Your Fines program encourages and promotes reading among our juvenile library card holders ages 18 and younger by helping them reduce outstanding fines on their card so they can continue to use it without interruption.

HOW

  • Sign up at the Youth Reference Desk and tell the librarian you want to read down your fines.
  • The librarian will sign you in and mark down your start time. In order to be eligible, you must be signed in and complete your reading at the library. All reading must be completed 30 minutes before the library closes.
  • There are no restrictions on what you can read. However, participation in the library’s storytime does not count toward this program.
  • You can read down any/all of your fines except future fines. Replacement charges for lost or damaged items are not eligible to read down, as well as processing or collection fees.
  • You can read down fines only on your own library card. If a child is too young to read alone, a parent or sibling may sit and read with them.
  • When you’re done reading, visit the Youth Services Reference Desk again and sign out. The librarian will give you a coin for the time you read.
  • For every 30 minutes you read you will earn a coin, which is equivalent to $1 to use to pay down late fines on your card.
  • Bring your coin(s) to the Circulation Desk before closing time.

All it takes is a good book and a little effort to Read Down Your Fines!
