SUMMER READING STARTS THIS WEEK!!!
Sign up on Monday, June 10, for Summer Reading Programs in both Youth and Adult Services.
Children newborn through high school are welcome to Dig into Reading from June 10 until July 26. Earn prizes by reading for specified minutes. The most coveted prize, the special t-shirt, is prize #5, but participants can continue on to prize #10. Prize #5 also includes tickets to a Very Funny Magic Show presented by magician Dennis DeBondt. But wait, there's more! Children can spin the special wheel each week for a particular category of book to be chosen from the related bins. Read a book from the bin, then fill out the chance ticket for that week and put it in the chance receptacle. Drawings for gift certificates to local businesses (i.e., McDonalds) will be held each Monday morning. These tickets are only good for the one week.
Come to Camp Read S'More for the Adult Summer Reading Program, running June 10 through August 25. Read 5 Elk Grove Library books from 5 different categories, determined by a game, to earn the special Campers' t-shirt. In addition (or instead) every EGVPL book read this summer can earn a chance to win a gift certificate from a local business.
This also seems to be Dave Rudolph Week at the Library. From 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 10, Mr. Rudolph will be performing popular songs from the Beatles, James Taylor, Jimmy Buffet, and more, as well as some of his own compositions. On Friday, June 14, he will be presenting his special interactive children's show--bubble machines, hula hoops, the Limbo, the Conga, and more--at 11 a.m. and at 1:30 p.m.. No tickets are needed, but there are space restrictions. No strollers will be allowed. Pre-school children and younger must come with an adult.
There are still openings for the monthly IDES program for job searchers, Effective Resumes, Interviewing and Job Search Techniques, from 9:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, June 10. Learn best practices for resumes, job searches, and interviewing. Register online.
Game Night is back on Friday, June 14, from 7-10 p.m. Game lovers ages 12 and up can take part in platform games (xBox, Wii, Playstation), PC games, and table-top games, singly or as a team. Those under the age of 17 must have a signed parental permission slip. Call Josh at extension 282 to register.
