Celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month at the Elk Grove Village Library

Hats Off to Reading: Library Card Sign-Up Month 2023

Hats Off to Reading ... it's National Library Card Sign-Up month!

We're celebrating the occasion all September long with drop-in activities for all ages, crafts, giveaways, and prizes.

Stop by the Circulation Services Desk during regular hours to register for or renew your Library card and play PLINKO to win prizes, including a $50 Amazon gift card. The Library will choose one random winner of the gift card on October 1, 2023.

Then, stop by Youth Services where we're all about hats. Visit the Youth Reference Desk and show us your Library card to receive a special bookmark featuring Bear, the star of Jon Klassen's book "I Want My Hat Back". Be sure to also try out our drop-in, hat-themed activities for families and children of all ages:

"Hat" and Seek Scavenger Hunt
September 1 - 12

"Whose Hat is This?" Seek and Find Game
September 19 - 30

Hat-themed crafts and color (while supplies last)
September 1 - 30

Hats off to reading! 🙌

About Library Card Sign-Up Month

Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the American Library Association and libraries unite in a national effort to ensure every child signs-up for their own library card.

Throughout the school year, public librarians and library staff will assist parents and caregivers with saving hundreds of dollars on educational resources and services for students. From free access to STEAM programs/activities, educational apps, in-person and virtual homework help, technology workshops to the expertise of librarians, a library card is one of the most cost-effective back-to-school supplies available.
