Elk Grove Village Public Library Named a 5-Star Library for 2022

The Elk Grove Village Public Library (EGVPL) has been recognized as one of America's Star Libraries for 2022, according to Library Journal, a prestigious national publication. EGVPL ranked #4 compared to other public libraries in the $5-9.9M budget category, earning it a 5-star rating, the highest honor possible.

"We all work together as a team and I am so very proud of this accomplishment," said Library Board President JoAnn Shafar.

The 2022 scores and ratings are based on fiscal year 2020 data from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Public Library Survey (PLS). This year, 5,359 public libraries received Library Journal Index scores, 85 of which received 5-star status, placing EGVPL in the top 1.6% in the United States.

"This top honor is confirmation of the extent our patrons use our library. We provide the services and resources the community wants and needs," said Debra Nelson, Director of the Elk Grove Village Public Library. "It is immensely gratifying to have such support from the community and especially rewarding to be recognized for our productivity during the challenging times of the pandemic. EGVPL's talented staff proved themselves nimble and creative by reconstructing service models to provide new ways to serve patrons."

The Library Journal Index of Public Library Service annually rates public libraries nationwide by measuring outputs such as circulation of physical and digital materials, library visits, program attendance, public computer use, Wi-Fi sessions, usage of online resources such as databases, and website visits based on per capita spending. The index compares public libraries with similar funding and determines the top in each budget category.
